Djiriba Waagura provide a range of programs and services suitable for educational institutes such as pre-schools, primary schools, high schools, TAFE's and universities.

 

Education is one of our core values and it is our aim to empower our youth and communities through knowledge.

All of our programs and services work towards achieving syllabus outcomes and can be tailored to suit the individual requirements of your school or organisation.

PROGRESSIVE & SEQUENTIAL EDUCATION

Our progressive and sequential education provides long-term, ongoing cultural support in a range of areas for local schools. Qualified Aboriginal educators from Djiriba Waagura will have a regular presence in the schools to empower both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous students.

Completely tailored to each schools individual requirements the aim of this program will differ from school to school but includes outcomes such as:

  • Increased school attendance

  • SLSO / Learning Support

  • Personal Learning Plan (PLP) Development

  • Workshop activities to increase education engagement

  • Ongoing mentoring

CULTURAL CALENDAR ACTIVITIES

We offer a range of activities to help celebrate and commemorate all significant cultural days for Aboriginal people such as NAIDOC, Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week, National Close the Gap Day and the International Day of Indigenous Children.

Including but not limited to:

  • Welcome to Country

  • Smoking Ceremony

  • Yidaki (didgeridoo)

  • Cultural Bush Walks

Our Cultural Calendar Activities aim to:

  • Celebrate and commemorate Aboriginal culture in Australia

  • Provide an opportunity for your staff and/or students to engage in cultural activities

  • Provide an opportunity for your staff and/or students to learn valuable cultural knowledge

  • Inspire an appreciation of cultural diversity and inclusion throughout your school or organisation

PERFORMANCES

Captivate your staff, students or guests and take part in sharing culture by engaging our traditional dance performers. See and hear ancient language and stories shared through traditional song and dance as we perform bunaan (Corroboree) for your school or organisation.

Our Cultural Performances aim to:

  • Provide a mesmerising ancient performance that will engage and captivate your audience.

  • Share our culture and provide an authentic Aboriginal experience for your audience.

EXCURSIONS

Take part in one of our half day or full day excursions and experience nature and culture in some of the most beautiful landscapes in Australia.

 

Our excursions are available in two locations

  • Huskinsson, Jervis Bay

  • Ben's Walk, Nowra

Both locations are rich in Aboriginal Cultural Heritage, the beauty of the areas will captivate your senses and open your students to an experience they will never forget.

Our excursions consist of a number of activities that include:

  • Bush tucker tours

  • Introduction to Aboriginal Culture

  • Dancing and music

  • Boomerang demonstrations

  • A range of immersive cultural experiences

Our excursions are flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of your school or organisational requirements.

Our Excursions aim to:

  • Expose your students to an immersive cultural experience, inspiring a deeper connection to Aboriginal Australia.

  • Create a strong sense of connection.

  • Improve communication.

  • Strengthen appreciation for both culture and nature within Australia.

  • Improve individual leadership skills.

  • Provide an opportunity for your students to experience nature and culture outside of their usual environment.

ON COUNTRY CAMPS

Provide your students with an unforgettable experience by joining us for one of our amazing camping experiences. Ideal for personal growth, immerse your staff and students in the bush and culture on the beautiful South Coast of NSW.

Our camps consist of a number of activities that include:

  • Cultural activities and workshops (traditional song and dance, artefacts and tools, bush foods/medicines, boomerang throwing, fire making and many others).

  • Coastal bush walks that include visiting ancient Aboriginal rock art sites that are sacred to our culture.

  • Swimming in some of Australia's most desired beaches and swimming holes.

  • Participating in a traditional corroboree (with the opportunity to share our dances and songs and to be painted in sacred ochres).

Our camps are fully catered with traditional sea foods, meats and vegetables and can be altered to suit your needs.

Our camps are flexible and can be tailored to suit the needs of your school or organisational requirements.

Our On Country Camps aim to:

  • Expose your students to an immersive cultural experience, inspiring a deeper connection to Aboriginal Australia.

  • Create a strong sense of connection.

  • Improve communication.

  • Strengthen collaboration and inspiring ownership and accountability.

  • Improve individual leadership skills.

  • Provide an opportunity for your students to experience nature and 'reset' outside of their usual environment.
